HDC appoints Hanisofian as its new CEO

KUALA LUMPUR: Halal Development Corp Bhd (HDC), which operates under the Investment, Trade and Industry Ministry, has appointed Hanisofian Alias as its chief executive officer (CEO), effective Oct 1.

He succeeds Hairol Ariffein Sahari, who had served as HDC CEO since 2021.

In a statement, HDC said Hanisofian, who had been serving as its interim CEO since earlier this year, previously held the position of chief industry development officer.

In that role, he oversaw industry governance, industry and market development, sector competitiveness, knowledge management and international cooperation.

He has been with HDC since 2008, contributing to the development of Malaysia’s halal ecosystem and the organisation’s industry development and international cooperation initiatives.

Before joining HDC, Hanisofian spent 13 years with a multinational company, where he gained experience in new product development, manufacturing operations, supplier quality management and project management, including initiatives aimed at improving quality, productivity and costs.

He holds a Master of Business Administration from Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia and a Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) in Electronics from the University of Manchester, United Kingdom.

As interim CEO, Hanisofian led HDC’s engagements with domestic and international stakeholders, focusing on halal trade facilitation, investment linkages, market access and strengthening Malaysia’s connectivity with regional halal markets.

“His appointment as CEO provides continuity in HDC’s ongoing efforts to strengthen Malaysia’s halal ecosystem and support the implementation of the Halal Industry Master Plan 2030.

“The focus includes enhancing industry competitiveness, especially for the small and medium enterprises, market access, investment and international cooperation,” it said.

HDC is tasked with developing an integrated and competitive halal ecosystem while supporting Malaysian halal industry players in expanding into domestic and international markets.
